Polarity

Every cell and battery has a positive (+) terminal and a negative (-) terminal.
The long line is the positive (+) terminal.
The short line is the negative (-) terminal.

So, in the case of a cell:
+ Symbol for a cell -

In the case of a battery of two cells:

+ Symbol for battery of two cells -

And in the case of a battery of three cells:

+ Symbol for battery of three cells -

etc.
