  • GCSE Physics: Coursework

GCSE Science has changed; so has the way coursework is assessed. We have full support for AQA's ISA and PSA, with help for other boards to follow.

Below is our acclaimed material for the old GCSE coursework, which will still be of use to many students.

    GCSE Physics: Coursework (Old)

THIS IS LEGACY MATERIAL - the science is correct but the marks no longer apply!

The three GCSE sciences approached coursework in the same way: this section is relevant to all. There are many ways of tackling GCSE Science coursework. Most students do all three sciences as a double award, so will need to do at least one piece of coursework in each science. You may do more.

    Sections

One of the best things about Science coursework is that the mark schemes are the same; the criteria on which you're judged are identical. There are four sections:

    P: Planning, O: Obtaining, A: Analysing, E: Evaluating

You may enter work that covers one or more of the above areas. For example, your teacher can give you a planned practical; you then obtain some results and analyse them. Your write up need only cover sections O and A.

    Getting Marks

The maximum available marks for each section are as follows: P:8 O:8 A:8 E:6

Getting marks is relatively easy - if you pay attention to how they are scored! Most people should be aiming for at least 6664, which is normally worth around a C grade. Most students score higher on their coursework than in their exams.

Planning - stating what you're going to do

Obtaining - getting and recording results

      Analysing - showing your discoveries

Evaluating - assessing how you got on
