Speaking: General Phrases Time to show off!

Use some phrases to give yourself thinking time:

German	English
Das ist eine sehr interessante Frage.	That's a very interesting question.
Naja, es kommt darauf an.	Well, it depends.
Moment, ich überlege.	Just a sec, let me think.

Make opportunities to use different tenses:

Was machst du am Wochenende? (What are you doing at the weekend?)

"Normalerweise gehe ich mit meinen Freunden in die Stadt aber letztes Wochenende sind wir ins Kino gegangen, weil meine Freundin Ruth Geburtstag hatte."

English Translation: Normally I go into town with my friends but last weekend I went to the cinema because it was my friend Ruth's birthday.

Wohin bist du letzten Sommer gefahren? (Where did you go last summer?)

"Ich bin mit meiner Familie nach Südfrankreich gefahren. Wir sind zwei Wochen geblieben.Wir haben viele Städte besucht und wir sind jeden Tag im Meer geschwommen. Nächsten Sommer hoffe ich mit meinen Freunden nach Spanien zu fahren."

English Translation: Last summer, I went with my family to the south of France. We stayed for 2 weeks. We visited lots of towns and swam every day in the sea. Next summer, I hope to go to Spain with my friends.

Give lots of opinions and reasons:

German	English
Ich mag... (nicht)	I like/don't like ...
Das gefällt mir (nicht), weil...	I like.../don't like...
Das finde ich...	I find that...
Ich würde lieber...	I would prefer to...
Es hat mir gut gefallen.	I liked it a lot.
Es hat Spaß gemacht.	It was fun.

Make liberal use of "weil" and "obwohl":

weil es Spaß macht	because it's fun
weil es langweilig ist	because it's boring
obwohl er streng ist	although he's strict
obwohl es oft schwer ist	although it is often hard
