Possession With Plurals

We can get into a total mess with plurals - more than one thing. It is perfectly okay to use 's for possession when the plural word does not end in s:
e.g. The women's hats were rather excessive.

However when a plural already ends in s, we just indicate possession with a single apostrophe:
e.g. The girls' skirts were rather skimpy.
