The Ellipsis ...

The ellipsis is one of our favourite punctuation marks, but it is widely misused and abused.

It consists of three dots in a row, basically full-stops, indicating missing words or phrases, often details that are unnecessary. They're regularly used in quotations.

e.g. "There was much to be done..."
